This chapter introduces Tk, an extension of Tcl that supports GUI, or graphical user interface, programming. A knowledge of most of the material in the first eight chapters of this book would be helpful before studying Tk.

The second section of the chapter is a succinct description of how Tk works. If this is your first experience with a GUI environment I suggest reading the section twice, the second time while you are studying Chapter 14.
